About Philadelphia
On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, marking the birth of the United States. For decades, Philadelphia was known as a strong industrial city, and has since transitioned to being a hub for education and medicine. We are a multicultural city known for our love of the arts and music. In spite of the city's thriving industries, many Philadelphians live in poverty or struggle with homelessness.
