About:

Philadelphia’s signature sandwich is the cheesesteak. Everyone has an opinion about the best places for this Philly classic and this excursion features some of the greats.

Before you nosh, check out South Philly’s famous Italian Market. You can meander through this bustling stretch of 9th Street, checking out all of the various foods and odds-and-ends shops along the way.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s on to cheesesteaks. We’ve gathered all of South Philly’s best options. You can decide together which place to try or you could split your group to go to different places and then reconnect to eat together and have a cheesesteak tasting contest!

Free and close parks and other public areas to eat:
  • Singing Fountain on East Passyunk
  • Gold Star Park
  • Interactive map of all parks and gardens in Philadelphia

Finish off the evening with a stroll to
Franklin Fountain, a class ice cream shop in Old City. It’s just under a 2-mile walk (30 minutes), which will help you build up an appetite after the cheesesteak. Franklin Fountain is also closely located to Independence Mall and Christ Church, so you can still take in some of the classics by moonlight.
